1001 erklärt: Die Herkunft zählt

1001 Explained: It’s all about the origin

Spices do not grow the same way everywhere, and you can really taste the difference! After all, where they are grown, the conditions in which they thrive and the level of expertise involved in their cultivation all have a decisive influence on their quality.

Where quality begins

When we think about the quality of spices, we often focus on aroma, colour or flavour. However, the region where they are grown is just as important.

Soil composition, climate and weather conditions influence a plant’s growth. Equally important are the right time of harvest, processing and subsequent storage. Each of these steps can affect aroma and quality.

That is precisely why it is worth taking a closer look at spices: where do they come from? How were they grown? And who is behind their production? With conventional spices, however, the exact origin often remains unclear to consumers from the label.

Where our spices come from

At 1001 Organic, origin is not a mere detail, but an essential part of our philosophy. That is why we want to know where our spices grow, how they are cultivated and who produces them. Through long-term partnerships and our on-site team in Zanzibar, we know the routes our spices take and can follow their journey from cultivation through processing right through to packaging.

How origin relates to quality

For us, quality begins long before a spice ends up in its packaging. The conditions under which it grows, the care taken in its cultivation and the processing carried out locally all shape its character and unique qualities. That is why we want to know not only what goes into our spices, but also where they come from and under what conditions they are produced.
