For us at 1001 Organic, 2024 was more than just another year – it was a year full of milestones, inspiring encounters and the realisation of great ideas, as well as challenges. Our team in Zanzibar, in particular, has undergone significant development. In our Retail Report, we take you on a journey through our year in Zanzibar.
What started as a small spice cart in the alleyways of Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, in 2019 has grown into something much bigger in recent years. 1001 Organic stands for genuine added value, fair partnerships, and exceptional flavours.
Our Retail Report will be available in English soon!
Five highlights in 2024
1. Our new packaging
We introduced our new packaging design last year. The new design is the result of months of work and great attention to detail. The new packaging provides better protection and is more sustainable, with each spice decorated with an animal motif inspired by the unique wildlife of Tanzania. It is practical, stackable and refillable, and will be a real eye-catcher in any kitchen.
2. 100% added value on site!
This is a milestone for our philosophy, as our entire value chain is now located directly in the country of origin. This means that our spices are grown, processed, packaged and dispatched in Tanzania without any detours via third countries. This creates genuine independence, promotes regional development, and guarantees maximum freshness — straight from the farm to your kitchen.
3. B2B growth and airport launch
In 2024, we significantly expanded our B2B network. From local supermarkets to boutique hotels, our spices are finding their way into more and more kitchens. We are particularly proud of our collaboration with the duty-free shop at Zanzibar Airport. Our products are now available there for all travellers.
4. Swiss Ethics Award nomination
We are proud: 1001 Organic has been nominated for the prestigious Swiss Ethics Award. This recognition stands for our consistent commitment to social responsibility, fair production and ethical business practices.
5. Our 1001 Organic Signature Spice Tour
In collaboration with Amo Zanzibar Tours & Safaris, we have been offering our own spice tour since last year. The tour includes a visit to a spice farm, an exclusive warehouse tour and a Swahili-inspired lunch. Since launching in September, over 120 guests have taken part in the tour. Many of these guests are loyal subscribers to our newsletter.
THANK YOU for being part of our journey!
